Overview of the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 bicycle trailer
The renowned sporting goods manufacturer Qeridoo distributes bicycle trailers of different application areas under the brand of the same name. The model Qeridoo is a single-seat child carrier , which is commercially available for almost ten years and revised the first quarter of 2015 to hit the market. The Qeridoo Sportrex 1 is located in the lower price range and only slightly cheaper than its bigger brother .This offers two children and was also examined in our Praxistest. The range of Qeridoo ranges from children’s bicycle trailers on dog trailer to load trailers, also in the lower to middle price range.
Scope of delivery and first impression of the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 bicycle trailer
The delivery of Qeridoo Sportrex 1 bicycle trailer includes a folded passenger compartment, two slightly inflated 20 inch pneumatic tires, a safety flag, an aluminum tiller with trailer hitch, a headrest, a solar protection sails, two wheel deflector made of plastic and a clear user. The variably adjustable push handle and a buggy wheel with quick-release function are also part of the extensive delivery. The design of theQeridoo Sportrex 1 is not a sensation, but meets all basic needs.Particularly practical are numerous Velcro fasteners, which indicate a quick commissioning and the multifunctional buggy wheel, which turns the bike trailer into a buggy or jogger in seconds. In the case of concurrent brands, these supplementary extras are usually charged separately, with Qeridoo everything is included in the purchase price.
Commissioning of the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 bicycle trailer
The Qeridoo Sportrex 1 can be assembled with a few hand movements and can be completed quickly and easily thanks to the pre-assembled small parts. Place the passenger compartment in an upright position by pulling on the cross brace from the rear of the trailer, which can be heard audibly from both sides of the frame. The two lightly pumped wheels are mounted on the chassis by means of a push button mechanism. It should be considered, that the tires must be inflated before the first ride. This is possible because of the autoventile at the fuel station or with the aid of an air pump designed for this purpose.The spring-loaded drawbar is mounted on the bike trailer frame by means of a rotary lock. For the benefit of the buggy function, the drawbar is folded downwards and fixed to the underbody of the trailer by means of a securing pin. As a result, the small buggy wheel is attached to the bow with the enclosed quick release buckle. The adjustable handlebar grip is permanently fixed at the rear by means of two rotary tensioners. According to the manufacturer, this is not to be dismantled again, since it also serves as an override bracket. The attachment of the push handle works best for the second. All individual steps are explained in German, English and Polish in the included manual and visualized by large color photos. All in all, we needed almost 12 minutes to build. This puts the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 in the middle of our test.

In practice , the proved Qeridoo Sportrex 1 extremely user-friendlyand reliable bike trailer . The Praxistest surprised us a little, since we underestimated the Sportrex 1 in the first contact a little. The simple design and simple material insert make the device uncomplicated and everyday. Despite some elements and features that do not appear completely thought through, the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 acted on the test track extremely exemplary . Not always neatly processed seams, ground fixing straps and a revised fastening method of the push handle were the triggers for under-average ratings in the section «processing».For putting bicycle trailer the bar in terms of safety is very high.
The Qeridoo Sportrex 1bike trailercan be attached in a few minutes on the bike. To do this, the axle coupling supplied with the quick-release clamp on the wheel axle is tensioned. The drawbar is fixed by fitting on the trailer coupling and secures the whole with the existing securing bolt. The Sportrex 1 is for driving a child conceived, which should not weigh more than 18kg and not greater than 116 cm. The little rider finds in the roomy cabin space and is with a well thought out 5-point safety harness buckled.Thanks to the seat belt and adjustable headrest finds the Scion a secure grip on the lightly padded seat, in which a short nap is even possible. The seatbelt and the head restraint prove to be exemplary and extremely comfortable in our practice test.
Although our standardized test weight of nine kilograms is not the maximum limit of possible payload, it reflects the weight of a 12-14 month old baby that can be safely driven into the trailer. The bicycle trailer is properly balanced so that only small forces on the bicyclerear axle act. The feeling also continues on rides on asphalted roads. In our test, only minimal lateral forces were felt during the acceleration, so that an additional force expenditure was limited. Very positively we felt the driving behavior in the city and in narrow streets. After a brief familiarization phase in road traffic the usual driving style can be continued. Significantly more strenuous it is for mountain driving , here the trailer weight is clearly noticeable. The Qeridoo Sportrex 1 bike trailer has been designed with medium-high curbs. Side trips and departures are hardly noticeable for both the driver and the rider. Atight turning circle , which was hardly achieved with another trailer in our practical test, also speaks for an urban use. The only thing you should be careful in too tight turns, as the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 tends to cut the corners.
On gravel roads the Sportrex 1 looks good, because the occupants are protected by a fine mesh and a seamless sunscreen completely against flying debris and dust. We were very satisfied with braking tests and evasive maneuvers on gravel and cobblestones. Because of the low center of gravity and the good suspension, the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 bike trailer was very direct and stable. The suspension is intelligently designed and can be adjusted to a certain degree of hardness by turning. Unfortunately, the child bicycle trailer does not have any active lighting backwards, so trips at night are unthinkable. We received from the manufacturer a LED lighting, but this was not mature and was not included in the delivery. Therefore, this could not be used as a practical test. All other safety components, such as the pennants, reflectors and the bright signal colors of the convertible top, made sense. Thanks to them, the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 is clearly visible in the crowded traffic and in the evening and you can be easily noticed. There is also storage space available. A large storage bag is located immediately behind the rear convertible top and holds a load of 5 kg. Little things can be found in a small bag behind the trailer.
Although the Qeridoo Sportrex 1 has a lesser extent than its larger brother Sportrex 2, it proved to be a bit bulky when loading into the car.The trailer only fit into the car with the disassembled wheels in difficult circumstances. Thus, the entire luggage compartment of the used VW Passat was completely filled and could not take up another load.Storage and storage in basements or corridors is possible in the collapsed state, but the Sportrex 1 has a stable landing edge just as with the two-seated model.
